Barbra Streisand, never one to shy away from politics, has released a statement regarding President Bush's victory in last Tuesday's national election, in which the highly vocal Democrat quotes Thomas Jefferson.

"Although written in 1798, I feel his words speak perfectly to the strong sentiments of frustration and disappointment 48 percent of the country feel," Streisand, 62, points out on her Web site.

She then quotes the founding father, saying: "A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt."

The statement, continuing to quote Jefferson, also goes on to say: "If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

Streisand didn't hold back from giving her views during the 2004 election, as the actress (who stars in the upcoming Meet the Fockers) posted plenty of political statements about President Bush and the campaign. Meanwhile, on the nonpolitical front, there were rumors last month that Streisand might hook up with Neil Diamond for a concert tour, but Diamond's reps said the singer had "other plans" for 2005.
