Jay-Z Pal Charged in Pepper Spray Incident
Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith, a longtime friend of Jay-Z's, could face up to a year in jail if convicted, MTV.com reports. A bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.
The criminal charges are just the latest repercussion stemming from an incident during a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York, which was one stop on the Best of Both Worlds tour starring the two musicians.
Kelly, 35, stopped the concert and exited the stage about 30 minutes into the show, claiming he saw two men brandishing guns in the audience. During the ensuing fracas Kelly was squirted with pepper spray – allegedly by someone in Jay-Z's entourage. Jay-Z, 33, with the help of some famous friends in the audience including Snoop Dogg and Kanye West, finished the show.
The incident caused the collapse of the collaboration between Kelly and Jay-Z. Although Kelly said he would finish out the remainder of the dates, Jay-Z refused and instead continued the tour under the banner Jay-Z and Friends.
Meanwhile, Kelly has slapped his former costar with a $75 million breach of contract lawsuit.
