Last weekend's head start for Eminem's fourth and newest album, Encore, gave the CD a jump on the U.S. pop charts, where it landed at No. 1.

After only three days on the market (it was originally scheduled to be released Tuesday), the rapper's album registered one of the biggest openings of the year by selling just over 700,000 copies in the week ended Nov. 14, according to Nielsen SoundScan, as provided by Eminem's Records label.

"Encore" also made its mark in Britain, where the two-day U.K. sales totaled 122,500 copies, reports Reuters.

In America, Encore has had the fourth-best debut of 2004, behind R&B singer Usher's Confessions (1.1 million copies), Norah Jones's Feel Like Home (1.0 million) and Tim McGraw's Live Like You Were Dying (766,000).

Largely because of piracy fears, several labels pushed up the release dates of their artists' CDs. Destiny's Child's Destiny Fulfilled, originally to have bowed on Tuesday, actually came out on Monday, while Snoop Dogg's Rhythm & G, which was being kept under wraps until next Tuesday, instead went on sale a week early.

The extra day for the Destiny's Child CD could even give it a chance to make this week's charts, since some retailers put it out as early as Friday.
