Jerry Seinfeld and his former costars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards had a reunion Wednesday night at New York's famed Rainbow Room to celebrate the release on DVD of the first three Seinfeld seasons.

"This is pretty exciting," Seinfeld told the packed house. He also thanked fellow cast members Dreyfus (who played Elaine on the hit NBC comedy), Richards (who played Kramer) and Jason Alexander – who played the manic George Costanza, but couldn't make the party because he was filming his new CBS show, Listen Up, in Los Angeles.

"These people made the show," Seinfeld said. "Nothing is funny until it's in people's hands. We all got along and had fun together. They deserve a great deal of the credit, as I do."

Among the bold-faced names to attend the DVD release party: Jerry Stiller, who played George's father, Regis Philbin and retired newsman Walter Cronkite. The DVD itself hits stores Nov. 23 and features 40 episodes, along with some 12 hours of extras, including a commentary with Seinfeld and co-creator Larry David.

Seinfeld, which was famously about "nothing," became one of the most popular television sitcoms in history – so popular, in fact, that the Smithsonian even wanted a piece of Seinfeld memorabilia to display.

Asked why he donated his famous "puffy shirt" to the museum, Seinfeld told PEOPLE, "That's what they wanted." He then added: "They're throwing out the Lincoln assassination shirt and putting us in."
