Andy had taken on the role of Mosaic’s project manager, promising a victory over his nemesis Kelly and the Apex team. "He’s 37 or 70 or something. He’s really old," Andy said.
Since Mosaic had only two players to Apex’s four, Apex’s Kevin, Kelly and Ivana decided to give Jen to Mosaic. Said Ivana: "When we got rid of Jen, I felt lighter. I felt like I could stand up straight because I wasn’t carrying this blond Barbie on my back anymore."
The night’s challenge? To create a bottle and marketing plan for Pepsi Edge, a new Pepsi soft drink.
With Kelly as project manager, Apex took charge, designing a bottle that spelled out the word "Edge" and finishing their task ahead of schedule.
At the Mosaic camp, things didn’t go quite as smoothly. The team came up with a geography-themed bottle, with two halves of a globe at either end. But when the project bogged down, Andy withheld the just-delivered pizza from the team until a particular task was finished. “We’ll get to it,” he said, as the obviously hungry players glanced at the uneaten food nearby.
The next day, the two teams unveiled their designs for Pepsico's marketing team. Apex's "Edge" bottle drew murmurs of approval, but Mosaic’s globe fell flat. "It looks like two blobs of a badly colored tennis ball," said one marketing exec. "It's ugly."
Apex was declared the clear winner, and all three Mosaic players were placed on the boardroom chopping block. When Andy and Jen teamed up on Sandy, she defended herself, and eventually both women ended up verbally burying their project manager, Andy.
"I don't want somebody who is getting beaten up so bad running one of my companies," said Trump, observing Andy's lack of rebuttal. "Andy, you're fired."
