The movie, about a pair of married assassins assigned to kill each other, is set to open June 10, says the Hollywood Reporter, which quotes a studio source that the free publicity about Pitt and Jolie already circulating about the release "is like hitting the jackpot."
Not so fast, claims an unnamed executive at another studio – who says that those in the marketing department at 20th Century Fox "are probably just dying right now, trying to figure out what the next steps are ... because they are going to have to keep the press focused on Smith and not on who broke up whom."
When it comes to promoting the movie, Gitesh Pandya, editor of industry tracking Web site BoxOfficeGuru.com, tells the Reporter: "It will be a little touchy whether to show intimacy or kissing" in the ads. "But that could be tantalizing, too."
A spokesman for the movie's production company, Regency, tells the trade paper that advertising and publicity plans for Smith remain unchanged from what they were before Brad and Jen announced their split.
"None of the marketing going forward has anything to do with any gossipy back story, nor will it," the spokesman said. "It's all about the movie."
