George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon will reunite for Ocean's 13, a third go-round in the franchise that started with 2001's Ocean's 11, Warner Bros. announced Monday. Production is scheduled to start in July, for a summer 2007 release.
The film, again to be directed (and co-produced with Clooney) by Steven Soderbergh, marks Clooney's first project announcement since winning an Oscar for his supporting role in Syriana.
Not returning, however, are Julia Roberts, Clooney's love interest in the first two movies, and Ocean's 12 costar Catherine Zeta-Jones.
"It was a script issue. We didn't have a place to really use talent like theirs, two big stars like that," Ocean's producer Jerry Weintraub tells the Associated Press. "They're very good friends of ours, and neither Soderbergh nor I would prevail on them to come back and do nothing just to do it."
Warner Bros. expects the rest of the cast, including Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, Bernie Mac, Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould, to return. Joining them will be Ellen Barkin.
