- Furrow has ties to neo-Nazi hate groups in the Northwest. President Clinton on Wednesday said "what we have heard about the suspect and his motives is deeply disturbing . . . I can only hope that this latest incident will intensify our resolve to make America a safer place, a place of healing across the lines that divide us."
- According to The New York Times, Furrow was released from jail in May of this year after serving 165 days for attempted assault in an incident in which he tried to stab a woman at a Seattle-area psychiatric center to which he was trying to commit himself. "In court documents, he described his rage and fantasies of committing a mass killing. He had come to the center, Fairfax Hospital in Kirkland, Wash., last year, seeking admission. But he appeared to be drunk, and when hospital officials tried to take his car keys away, he threatened to stab one of them, according to court records in Seattle."
