- As for new projects, Brooks is at work adapting his 1968 cult comedy "The Producers" into a Broadway musical for the upcoming season. And his dream cast? Playing flea-bitten impresario Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel in the movie) and the meek account Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder): Nathan Lane and Martin Short.

Mel Brooks, an old friend of the PEOPLE Daily, wishes to make clear to those who read his quote about the 25th anniversary of his "Young Frankenstein" in last Thursday's edition that at the moment the film is being re-released theatrically in New York ONLY.
