'Dance' Sings, 'Snatch' Flies

The hip-hop film "Save the Last Dance" stood in place, retaining its No. 1 box-office position for the second week running. A new movie, "Snatch," directed by Guy Ritchie (yes, that Guy Ritchie, whose new bride, Madonna, has been seen wearing T-shirts emblazoned across the chest with the name of his movie), was the weekend's top new movie, coming in at No. 3. It stars Brad Pitt. Another debut was "The Pledge," a somber cop drama starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Sean Penn. All told, it has been a prosperous January for Hollywood, say industry observers. The weekend's Top 10, according to studio estimates:
1."Save the Last Dance," $16 million.
2. "Cast Away," $11.3 million.
3. "Traffic," $8.2 million.
4. "Snatch," $7.6 million.
5. "What Women Want," $7 million.
6. "Finding Forrester," $6.7 million.
7. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," $6.46 million.
8. "Thirteen Days," $6.4 million.
9. "Miss Congeniality," $6.2 million.
10. "The Pledge," $5.7 million.
