Bruce Willis Goes 'West' in Idaho
The star of "The Sixth Sense" tried live drama last week, when he directed and costarred in a tiny local theater's production of "True West."

Only three nights after his brother, Robert, a 42-year-old Web page designer, succumbed to pancreatic cancer last week, Bruce Willis, 46, made good on a longstanding commitment made to the 250-seat Liberty Theater that he co-founded in his adopted hometown of Hailey, Idaho. As reported in the latest issue of PEOPLE, the "Sixth Sense" star took to the stage for a performance of Sam Shepard's brutal drama of two battling brothers, "True West." No mention was made of Robert from the stage, though the audience was peppered with family members, including Bruce's daughter Scout, 9, and her mother (Bruce's ex), Demi Moore, and Moore's boyfriend, Oliver Whitcomb. Willis also directed the production, and was called "creative and demanding" by his costar, actor Chad Smith. Speaking to the local paper, Willis called the stint "a refreshing break from films," and he got a standing ovation for his efforts. Not only that, but Scout presented Dad with a bouquet of roses after the curtain call.
