Mike Myers Gets the Seuss Treatment
The "Austin Powers" star is replacing his yellow teeth with a stovetop hat and is preparing to play "The Cat in the Hat" in a movie.

First, Jim Carrey played the Grinch. Now Mike Myers will be the Cat. Myers, 38, will play the wily, stovetop hat-wearing "Cat in the Hat," a live-action version of the 1957 Seuss classic for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" producer Brian Glazer, reports Variety. A start date for production has not been announced. The project arose out of the ashes of Myers's failed "Dieter" project, which plunged him, Glazer and Universal Studios into a series of lawsuits that resulted in an undisclosed settlement. (Dieter was a hipper-than-hip German existentialist film buff created by Myers when he was on "Saturday Night Live." Production on the movie based on the character was halted when Myers claimed the material wasn't ready.) Despite the bad blood between the main parties, Grazer says the marriage of Myers and the material helped put past feelings to rest. "After we made 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' we were contemplating 'Cat in the Hat' at the time we were going through this whole 'Dieter' mess, and I remember saying to one of his CAA agents that Mike would be really good as the cat," Grazer told the trade paper. "They said, 'But you're in this thing with him,' and I said, 'Sure, but he'd still be great, the best creative choice.' Mike heard about that, and we started talking. I think both of us were flattered with the idea of putting art before all that other stuff. A creative bridge happened in an organic way." Myers, who is currently filming the third "Austin Powers" installment, said, "It's great fun to be in a children's movie, and it's an honor to be asked to be part of the world of Dr. Seuss."
