WED: Upcoming "Chicago" star Richard Gere, 53, married longtime companion and former James Bond girl Carey Lowell, 41, reports USA Today. They were wed last weekend in the Hamptons, N.Y. The couple has a 2-year-old son, Homer. Gere was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991-95.
AGREED: "The Santa Clause 2" star Tim Allen, 49, has signed a seven-figure deal to return to the network, this time as a producer of a sitcom about the state of the modern American male, reports Variety. Although he is not contractually obligated to appear on-camera, says the trade publication, Allen may surface on the show, just as actor-producer Sandra Bullock has done with ABC's "The George Lopez Show."
UNPLUGGED: Access Resource Services and Psychic Readers Network, the two companies behind the Caribbean-inflected phone-in psychic Miss Cleo, have agreed to disconnect their service and pay $5 million to settle charges that it misled customers looking for a supposedly free glimpse into their futures, the Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday, reports Reuters. "I'm no psychic, but I can see this: If you make deceptive claims there will be an FTC action in your future," said Howard Beales, head of the agency's consumer-protection division.
ANNOUNCED: Patriarch of "The Royal Tennenbaums," Gene Hackman, 72, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at next year's Golden Globes ceremony on Jan. 19, reports AP. Hackman already has a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 1992's "Unforgiven" and a Best Actor Oscar for 1971's "The French Connection," for which he also won the Golden Globes those years, as he did this year for "Tennenbaums." Previous DeMille winners include Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson and Barbra Streisand.
