Damning Early Testimony in Blake Case

Hollywood stuntman Gary McLarty, the second witness in Robert Blake's preliminary hearing on murder charges, testified Thursday that the former "Baretta" star offered him $10,000 to "pop" Blake's wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, months before her May 2001 slaying, Reuters reports.

McLarty -- who once worked with Blake on "Baretta" and whose film credits include "Jurassic Park" and "The Terminator" -- said that in a March 2001 meeting at a Los Angeles restaurant, Blake had envisioned three possible scenarios for having his wife killed, one of which was similar to the actual circumstances of her death two months later.

McLarty also said in court that Blake showed him a pistol, nude pictures of his wife and a means for McLarty to enter the house and shoot Bakley.

"He asked me ... if I could get a silencer, and I said, 'No, I don't even own a gun,'" McLarty said. "He walked over and brought out a gun and said, 'Well, here's a gun right here.'"

McLarty said Blake told him that Bakley was pregnant by the actor and that she was demanding money from him.

"He said one night after she had fallen asleep someone could sneak upstairs and pop her," McLarty said.

Blake's lawyers are reportedly requesting that the court ignore McLarty's testimony because he has admitted to shooting a man in self-defense in 1991 and has also admitted to cocaine use.

McLarty's claims came one day after testimony from a private investigator who once worked for Blake and said the actor devised a plan in 1999 to kill Bakley. The preliminary hearing will decide whether Blake, 69, will go to trial on charges of murdering Bakley, who was found dead in his car outside a restaurant near the couple's San Fernando Valley home.
