Kate Hudson is trading a movie role for diaper duty: She and rocker husband Chris Robinson are expecting their first child, PEOPLE's L.A. Bureau reports.
The actress, whose new movie "Alex & Emma" opens Friday, didn't plan on making an announcement, but word leaked after she had to drop out of filming the supernatural thriller "Skeleton Key."
This will be the first child for Hudson, 24, and Robinson, 32, the former frontman for the Black Crowes. According to her rep, Hudson is due early next year.
That also means, yes, Hudson's mother, Goldie Hawn, is going to be a grandma.
Hudson and Robinson tied the knot New Year's Eve 2000 in a small ceremony at the Aspen, Colo., ranch of Hawn and longtime partner Kurt Russell.
The actress first bounded into the spotlight as rock groupie Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous," which earned her a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination. "Alex & Emma" pairs Hudson with Luke Wilson in a romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner.
Robinson, meanwhile, has toured in support of his first solo album, released after more than a decade of leading the Crowes alongside brother Rich Robinson.
