Dave Matthews Band to Play Central Park

Following in the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel, Barbra Streisand and Luciano Pavarotti, the Dave Matthews Band will perform a free concert in New York's Central Park that's expected to draw upwards of 100,000 people, reports Reuters.

The event, set for Wednesday night, Sept. 24, will follow that Tuesday's release of Matthews's solo debut album, "Some Devil," which features guest appearances from regular Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds and Phish's Trey Anastasio.

America Online (which, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner) will sponsor the show, and the band's label, RCA, will tape the park happening for an immediate DVD and CD release.

The show will take place on the 150-year-old park's Great Lawn and, though tickets are free, donations of at least $25 are requested and all seats are general admission.

Proceeds will go to the AOL Concert for the Schools! program, which will benefit the Fund for Public Schools of New York City and the Music Resource Center in DMB's home base of Charlottesville, Va.
