Wedding bells are ringing for yet another Hollywood couple. Former "Dawson's Creek" star Katie Holmes and "American Pie" actor Chris Klein are engaged, a spokesperson for the actress confirmed to PEOPLE.com on Tuesday.
Though no wedding date has been announced, word of the impending nuptials follows a report in the New York Post's Page Six gossip column that Holmes was seen sporting a large diamond engagement ring while shopping at Banana Republic in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, over Christmas.
Holmes, 25, and Klein, 24, have been dating for five years. In October, when PEOPLE asked Holmes of their relationship, she responded: "Things are very good. Thank God."
Pressed for further information, such as whether the two lived together (both reside in Los Angeles), Holmes said, "That's our business. But thank you for wondering."
Holmes, who first came to audiences' attention in the 1997 film "The Ice Storm," starred on "Dawson's" for six seasons (1998-2003). She played Joey Potter, whose greatest dilemma was choosing between two loves, Dawson or Pacey, played, respectively, by James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson (to whom she was reportedly romantically linked at one time).
This year, she starred in three movies: "Phone Booth" (with Colin Farrell), "The Singing Detective" (with her "Wonder Boys" costar, Robert Downey Jr.) and "Pieces of April."
Her next film, the romantic comedy "First Daughter," is scheduled to be released Jan. 9, and she has been mentioned as a possible costar opposite Christian Bale in the upcoming "Batman 5" movie, according to trade reports.
Rosy-cheeked Klein was also born in the Midwest (Hinsdale, Ill.) and played football in high school. He put his athletic ability to work in the "American Pie" movies (1999's "American Pie" and 2001's "Pie 2"), portraying lacrosse player Chris "Oz" Ostreicher.
He also got a workout as the lead in the 2002 sci-fi thriller "Rollerball," and will appear in the upcoming crime drama "The United States of Leland" alongside Kevin Spacey and "Dawson's" star Michelle Williams.
