Casino Fight Gets Jamie Foxx Probation

Comedian Jamie Foxx has been placed on two years' probation and fined $1,500 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace following an April 26, 2003, altercation with security guards at a New Orleans casino.

Foxx, 36, entered his plea on Wednesday. District Attorney Eddie Jordan announced Friday that Criminal District Judge Frank Marullo gave the entertainer a six-month suspended jail sentence in addition to the probation and fine, reports the Associated Press.

Foxx's younger sister, Deidre Dixon, pleaded guilty to a felony count of battery on a police officer with injury, and also to misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace and resisting arrest. She was given a suspended sentence of five years in prison for the felony and one year suspended for the misdemeanors. She was also placed on five years' probation, fined $1,500 and ordered to pay $13,000 in restitution to the officers.

As part of the plea agreement, says AP, prosecutors dismissed two felony battery counts against Foxx and one count against Dixon.

The two were arrested at Harrah's New Orleans Casino last April 26 after police said they and a group of their friends refused to show identification at the door, then entered the casino and refused requests to leave.

Authorities also said that when police tried to handcuff Dixon, she struggled and with one of her hands began swinging the handcuffs still attached to the other hand, hitting an officer in the face.
