JUSTIN SOLO: Just last month, 'N Sync members Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone sang the national anthem at a charity event in Miami. But that may be the closest Timberlake gets to reuniting with his old bandmates. Sources tell PEOPLE that Timberlake informed his bandmates that he wasn't interested in being a part of the next 'N Sync album. "Justin said he's not in the mood and doesn't think it will work," says the source. "He doesn't want any part of it." As for the future of 'N Sync, "(The others) are undecided right now," the source adds. "They aren't really talking to (Justin). They haven't taken it so well." A rep for the 'N Sync's label said only that there's no album due from the group this year.

AMBER TESTIFIES: Amber Frey, the former mistress of double-murder suspect Scott Peterson – and the prosecution's star witness – took the stand in his trial this week, revealing him to be a chronic liar. It remained to be seen whether her testimony would also link him to the murder of his pregnant wife, Laci. Frey described their first date together in Fresno, Calif., in November 2002 – one month before Laci disappeared – and prosecutors played taped phone conversations between Scott and Amber after she grew suspicious of Peterson and began cooperating with police. "You have a missing pregnant wife and you're talking to your girlfriend. Hmm. Hmm. Did you think about that one?" Frey said in one taped conversation. Peterson replied, "It sounds terrible." He has pleaded not guilty.

LORI'S PLEA: A letter from Lori Hacking to her husband, suspected murderer Mark Hacking, showed that she had pleaded with him to change his ways. "I want to grow old with you, but I can't do it under these conditions," she wrote in a typewritten letter discovered by police at the same time they found a blood-stained hunting knife in the couple's apartment. According to a probable cause statement released this week, prosecutors have filed a first-degree murder charge against Mark Hacking, 28, who allegedly confessed to his brothers that he killed his wife by shooting her in the head with a .22-caliber rifle.

SPEARS STEPCHILD: Britney Spears finally met her 2-year-old stepdaughter-to-be, Kori, and posed for photos with the child and her puppy, as well as with Kori's dad (Britney's fiancé), Kevin Federline. Photos from the get-together are on the cover of PEOPLE this week, with all three looking very happy. Kori is one of Federline's two children with former "Moesha" actress Shar Jackson, who last month gave birth to Federline's son, Kaleb Michael Jackson.

HILTON BREAK-IN: Police are investigating a break-in and burglary that apparently occurred Aug. 4 at the Hollywood Hills home of Paris and Nicky Hilton. "Everything ... Just all my valuables. All my jewelry. All my money," Paris Hilton, 23, who was not home at the time of the robbery, told Los Angeles station KABC-TV. Nicky Hilton, 20, said she suspects this might be the work of someone the sisters know – because the robbers took personal possessions, such as photographs, while leaving behind expensive iPods, flat-screen TVs and digital cameras.
