Ashlee Simpson's album Autobiography is No. 1 and expected to go platinum this week – a feat that even her older sister, Jessica Simpson, has never pulled, despite sales of her latest, In This Skin, reaching more than 2 million copies.
Not that there's any sibling rivalry, says Ashlee, 19. "We're sisters," she gushes to the Associated Press. "For us it's not about competition. If she succeeds, then I'm happy, and if I succeed, then our family wins no matter what."
It was father Joe Simpson, who manages both daughter's careers, who suggested an MTV reality show for Ashlee, whose previous TV credits included two years as a supporting character on the WB's 7th Heaven. She also recorded a song for last summer's movie Freaky Friday.
"I wasn't that wild about having the cameras in my face, but my dad thought it would be a good way for everyone to get to know me as me, and not as Jessica's little sister," Ashlee says.
As for how Jessica, 23, feels about her successful sister, the Newlyweds star has said: "Ashlee doesn't need any advice, and Ashlee is very much an observer. She sees decisions that I've made that are good, and decisions I've made that are bad. She's definitely well set up."
The two Simpsons do not plan to perform together any time soon. But once they do, says Ashlee, she'd like them "to do something different for both of us. Maybe blues or something where we can both step out of our styles."
