Charlize Theron Fights Fur-Wearing Stars
Monster Oscar winner Charlize Theron has a new role: poster girl for group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
"If You Wouldn't Wear Your Dog, Please Don't Wear Any Fur," reads a billboard featuring a large photo of Theron, 29, hugging her pet pooch, Tucker.
"It doesn't make sense to me to let animals suffer for fashion," Theron says in a statement. She credits her love for animals to her upbringing on a South African farm.
PETA selected the high-profile Theron as its new mascot in order to persuade other stars that fur is best left on its original owners, Agency French Press reports.
This year's PETA list of shame was topped by Supreme diva Diana Ross for having "stooped to taking free furs in exchange for modeling" for celebrity designer Dennis Basso, and distressed domestic diva Martha Stewart for sporting a chinchilla fur scarf in public.
As for Theron's other activities, earlier this month she returned to Berlin to resume filming Aeon Flux, production of which had been shut down on Aug. 31 after she wrenched her neck during a trampoline accident for the sci-fi flick.
