After a long battle with a dementia-related illness, Shields's mother and former manager, Teri, passes away at age 79. "My mother was an enormous part of my life and of who I am today," Brooke says in a statement, and later refutes criticism about her handling of her early career. "She protected me from so much of what is devastating about being in the entertainment industry – the rejection, the jealousy, the being screwed-over," Brooke tells The Hollywood Reporter.
