Craig and Leonie Hemsworth welcome their second son Chris Hemsworth in Melbourne, Australia. As a kid, Hemsworth, older brother Luke and their parents divide their time between the coastal city and an Aboriginal cattle station before welcoming younger brother Liam. "It was a very different environment to what we went back to and what my friends who grew up in Melbourne experienced," Hemsworth told Jimmy Kimmel of living in the Outback.
After graduating high school, Hemsworth gets his first acting role as bad boy Kim Hyde on the popular Australian soap Home and Away, which served as training ground for fellow Aussies Naomi Watts and Heath Ledger. Hemsworth wins the most popular new talent Logie Award in 2005 before exiting the series in 2007. That same year, the Aussie hunk makes his big move to Hollywood.
Hemsworth takes over the first five minutes of J.J. Abrams's blockbuster Star Trek reboot, playing Captain Kirk's courageous father George, who's killed off in the opening scene. The film is a critical and commercial success, earning a whopping $72.5 million in its opening weekend, and garners the Hollywood newcomer major buzz.
After a brief courtship, Hemsworth, 27, marries Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, 34, whom he began dating earlier that year.
Taking on his first lead role, Hemsworth makes a splash as Marvel's Norse god of lightning Thor. "We pretty much knew as we were shooting the test that he was the guy," director Kenneth Branagh told The Hollywood Reporter. The hit movie, which costars Natalie Portman, secures Hemsworth a follow-up role in the mega-ensemble blockbuster The Avengers, which becomes the world's third highest-grossing film in 2012.
Hemsworth and wife Pataky welcome a baby girl, India Rose. "We love the country and love the name," the new dad tells USA Today.
Hemsworth returns to the role of the Norse God for sequel Thor: The Dark World, in which he is forced to team with brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to save Earth and Jane Foster (Portman) from being destroyed. The film opens at No. 1 two weeks in a row, grossing over $150 million.
The actor's rep confirms to PEOPLE he and wife Pataky are expecting their second child. "It makes it harder and harder to leave and go to work. I enjoy being at home a lot more than I ever have," Hemsworth recently said of being a father to 18-month-old daughter India. In January, his rep confirms the couple is expecting twins.
Hemsworth and Pataky welcome twin sons, Tristan and Sasha. "You are home! Tristan and Sasha came to this world on March 18 just after [the] full moon," the actress writes on Instagram, sharing a photo of the boys' feet. "Complete happiness."
