As lone ranger Jake Lonergan, Craig goes head to head with Harrison Ford in the sci-fi thriller Cowboys and Aliens, which takes the top spot at the box office, raking in $36.4 million in its debut weekend. "It sounds kooky on paper, but on the screen, cowboys and aliens make beautiful, fun music together," praises The Hollywood Reporter.
Craig captures the role of disgraced investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the American adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson. The film, dubbed by critics as "the feel-bad movie of Christmas", also stars Rooney Mara as genius hacker Lisbeth Salander. "I couldn't have asked for a better person to work with," Mara tells CBS News.
Craig suits up for the third time as super spy James Bond in Skyfall, which earns rave reviews and opens with a record-setting $87.8 million haul – the best debut in the franchise's history. "Bond movies live or die on their popularity," the actor tells the U.K. edition of Esquire. "I'm involved [in the films] on a very deep level. I have it in mind all the time: if it doesn't make any money, we're f–."
After starring in A Steady Rain with Hugh Jackman, Craig returns to the Great White Way in the revival of Harold Pinter's Betrayal, playing one half of an unhappily married couple opposite real-life wife Weisz. The play, directed by Mike Nichols, breaks box office records when it rakes in over $1 million during previews.
