Ed Westwick: Snapshot

Name
Ed Westwick
Date of Birth
June 27, 1987
Birth Place
Hertfordshire, England
British actor Ed Westwick has made his Gossip Girl alter-ego Chuck Bass look like an altarboy! The unexpected heartthrob's rock star and womanizing ways (he fronts the band "The Filthy Youth" and has been linked to Drew Barrymore & costar Jessica Szohr) has provided endless tabloid fodder for gossip bloggers.

Pre-Gossip fame, Westwick trained at London's National Youth Theater, making his mark in American films with bit parts in Children of Men and Anthony Minghella's Breaking and Entering. But it's his star-making turn as calculating lothario Chuck Bass that has made him a household name and landed him on PEOPLE's 100 Most Beautiful list in 2008. Westwick nabbed a role in 2009's S. Darko, the sequel to the cult classic Donnie Darko, before Gossip Girl finished in 2012.

Damn That Mother-Chucker!

Westwick wins his big break as womanizing and manipulative Upper East Sider Chuck Bass on The CW's Gossip Girl. The actor quickly garners praise for his charismatic performance and fearlessly flamboyant wardrobe. "The man will rock a headband and a crazy basketball jersey, or like a bowtie and a seersucker suit, without one ounce of self-awareness," series creator Josh Schwartz tells W. GG also stars Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley and Taylor Momsen.

Gossip Guys Come Out!

With costars Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley, Westwick appears on gay and lesbian lifestyle magazine Out. The magazine calls the show a "cultural phenomenon whose early adopters weren't actually teenage girls but rather gay men trapped in arrested development or seeking to vicariously prolong their youth." The mag also praises Westwick's portrayal of Bass, adding, "He channels James Spader circa Pretty in Pink to delicious results."
