Paltrow and her actress mother, Blythe Danner (in New York City in May), helped each other through their family's toughest time: the death of Paltrow's father, producer-director Bruce Paltrow, from pneumonia and throat cancer complications in October 2002. The actress recently told London's Evening Standard that the loss sent her into a deep depression: "The thought of life without my father was totally unfathomable to me."
