Sherman (right), a sophomore studying history and international studies, was considered by friends to be an "optimistic person." During a recent meeting with her dorm's honors discussion group, another member, freshman Jenna Gorbatkin, recalls the Springfield, Va., native saying, " 'I think that all the small things and little joys in life make it worth living.' "
