WALEED SHAALAN, 32

A grad student who came to VT from northern Egypt last year to study engineering, Shaalan hoped to bring his wife and 1½-year-old son to live in the United States next month. "Waleed was bright, energetic and caring," classmate Randy Dymond told The New York Times. A collection has been set up by the MSA National (the Muslim Students Association National) for Shaalan's family.
