Originally from Tamil Nadu, India, Loganathan was a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech since 1982. Throughout his career he earned many honors, including an Outstanding Faculty Award and the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching. According to the Times of India, Loganathan lived with his wife and children on Virginia Tech's campus.
