Along with his wife, Stephanie Hofer, Bishop was a German professor at Virginia Tech and helped coordinate the university's exchange program with the Darmstadt University of Technology. Before joining the faculty at VT, the Fulbright scholar studied at Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany, where he taught English, perfected his German and met the woman he would marry, according to his Web site.
