Born and raised in Peru, Perez Cueva was a member of his country's National Swimming Federation before heading to the States to study international relations at Virginia Tech. "My son drew up an objective and he did everything possible to reach it," his mother, Betty Cueva, said in an interview with Peruvian radio station RPP Noticias.
