Curtis received an Oscar nod – his only – for the 1958 drama, costarring Sidney Poitier, about two escaped prisoners who are shackled together. "The mother f–rs nominated us for an Academy Award. They nominated Sidney and me for one part. I got so pissed off," he told PEOPLE. "It was so unfair. If we'd won an Oscar we'd have to split it in half."
