The Scandal: Aimed a homophobic slur at his costar
The Grey's Anatomy actor came under fire in October 2006 for using a gay slur aimed at cast mate T.R. Knight during an argument with Patrick Dempsey. Knight eventually came out as a result of the speculation surrounding his sexuality, while Washington apologized for his actions and filmed a PSA against using hate speech. He was fired from the show the following year, and subsequently denied aiming the term at Knight. Since his exit, he has appeared in several independent movies, but has yet to land a project as high-profile as Grey's.
