She managed to keep her struggles with an eating disorder private for years, but the pressure of living a public life and marital problems caused Princess Diana's battle with bulimia to become public knowledge. Still, as hard as it was to see her personal business become public, "Diana herself is far more balanced and mature [now]," Andrew Morton, a Diana biographer, told PEOPLE. "Having suffered much, she is now able to empathize with those who suffer far more. Whatever happens to her personally, it must be heartening for her to know that thousands of women have gone for help as a result of the publicity."
