In 1986, Cher ruffled some feathers when she arrived at the Oscars wearing a Bob Mackie outfit that was more flesh than fabric and a goth-meets-Native American headdress. At the ceremony, she joked, "As you can see, I did receive my Academy booklet on how to dress like a serious actress."
