For much of the Emmy nominations July 15, the usual suspects kept turning up: Patricia Heaton, Jennifer Aniston, Sex and the City. But come Sept. 19, some fresh blood could enliven the 56th annual ceremony. Rapper-actor Mos Def was nominated for best lead actor in a miniseries or movie (for Something the Lord Made), the quirky – but little-watched – sitcom Arrested Development got a nod for outstanding comedy and Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn is up for lead actress in a drama. May the best newbie win.
