FASTEST LANE TO ATHENS
The Olympics haven't started but already Michael Phelps is making waves. The 19-year-old American athlete became the first U.S. swimmer to qualify for the games in six individual events. But after finishing second in the 200m backstroke on July 13 (won by world-record breaker Aaron Peirsol), Phelps dropped the race from his Athens itinerary. Still, with relay races included, he could have a shot at a bigger victory: besting Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals.
