Taking a page from an old Saturday Night Live skit, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger mocked state Democrats at a rally July 17 by calling them "girlie men" and accusing them of holding up budget talks because of special interests. The remarks brought the Terminator actor a barrage of criticism from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus, who deemed the taunt "as misogynist as it is anti-gay." The governor's office did not plan to release an apology.
