In 2002, six months after coming out of the closet on national TV and four months after ending her Emmy-winning talk show, Rosie O'Donnell shut down her magazine, Rosie, following a feud with publisher Gruner + Jahr about its editorial direction. G + J fired back, filing a lawsuit accusing the comic of "bizarre and oft-times mean-spirited behavior" and seeking damages in excess of $100 million; O'Donnell countersued for $125 million. The judge declared the case a draw after a seven-week trial.
