MOST QUESTIONABLE JUDGEMENT
A frustrated Serena Williams argued a call by chair umpire Mariana Alves during her losing quarterfinal match against Jennifer Capriati Sept. 7 at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Three of Alves's calls in the third set were considered questionable, and one – in which she overruled a call by a line judge – led U.S Tennis Association chief executive Arlen Kantarian to personally call Williams with an apology from the organization.
