Vice President Dick Cheney, 63, and North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, 51, traded barbs from across a table during their face-off on Oct. 5. While Democratic nominee Edwards accused the Republican administration of refusing to "level with the American people" about the Iraq war, Cheney stuck by his "right-thing-to-do" attitude and attacked Edwards's one-term experience. Yet analysts called their Oct. 5 debate a draw, and as of Oct. 8, polls indicated a dead heat between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry.
