Elton John opened his arsenal of insults again, and this time his target was Madonna. While accepting an honor at London's Q Awards on Oct. 4, the singer – who earlier had lashed out at Taiwanese journalists, calling them "rude, vile pigs" – accused Madge of lip-synching on her recent Re-Invention tour. "Anyone who lip-synchs in public onstage when you pay 75 pounds ($134) to see them should be shot," he said. Madonna's spokeswoman denied the allegation.
