Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was laid to rest Nov. 12 at his Ramallah compound a day after his death in Paris, where he had sought treatment for an unknown illness and had slipped into a coma. As Mideast leaders gathered in Cairo to mourn the controversial Arafat, who is survived by wife Suha Tawil and daughter Zahwa, 9, President Bush pledged support for peace, adding: "I intend to use the next four years to spend the capital of the United States" on creating a Palestinian state.
