Secretary of State Colin Powell, 67, tendered his resignation Nov. 15, and on the following day, President George W. Bush tapped national security adviser Condoleezza Rice for the position. Rice, 50, who's expected to be confirmed quickly by the Senate once Bush's second term starts in January, is known for having a close relationship with the president. Powell, meanwhile, has often been at odds with the Bush administration during his four years as a Cabinet member.
