'Halo': A Heroic Pairing
Although she plays his niece onscreen, Panettiere, 18, is spotted holding hands with costar Milo Ventimiglia, 30, at an L.A. mall. The PDA confirmation of their relationship comes after months of denials from both stars. "Hayden's mom adores Milo. She thinks he's so cute," a family friend told PEOPLE in December. "She tells her friends that he's her boyfriend. She's very proud." In February 2009, the couple calls it quits.
Hayden Covers Cosmo
"I think that people look at me as just another one of those girls who's going to screw up, like 'She's going to get into drugs, and she's going to get into the parties,'" Panettiere tells Cosmopolitan. "I have the occasional glass of champagne when I'm celebrating something, but generally, I don't drink. I'm a pizza-and-a-movie girl." Although she keeps mum on her relationship with Ventimiglia, she does discuss what she needs in a man: "I need somebody who is very secure."
Hayden's Family Dispute
Panettiere's father, Alan, is arrested after allegedly striking her mother, Lesley Vogel. He is released on bail and reunites with his wife that same day. Speaking for the first time, Panettiere tells Extra, "It was blown way out of proportion by a sheriff who wanted his 15 minutes of fame." Adding, "My family is wonderful – they are so very happy. So...we're all great." In September, her father is charged with misdemeanor battery.

I Love You, Beth Cooper
Panettiere's first flick as a leading lady, I Love You, Beth Cooper, bombs at the box office, earning only $4.9 million in its opening weekend. Playing the film's resident hottie, Panettiere has to drop her towel for a revealing locker room scene, but the unfazed star told reporters, "If I can't flaunt it at 20, come on! I mean I might as well show it now."
