Surprise Ending
Locklear files for divorce from Sambora after reportedly intercepting an email to Sambora from a mutual female acquaintance that contained provocative pictures. "Richie's saying that nothing ever happened," a friend tells PEOPLE. Another says the split is a result of "issues that they've been trying to solve for years." Regardless of the cause, the pair remains dedicated to making things as easy as possible for Ava. In March, Sambora asks for joint custody.
On the Rebound
Hanging out with David Spade at an afterparty for his Showbiz Show, Locklear is spotted smooching the actor/comedian at Jones restaurant and bar in West Hollywood. While the pair is seen out on the town cuddling, holding hands and kissing over the next few months, pals of Locklear say that the relationship remains far from serious. By September, the duo decides to take a break. "Heather is still going through a lot," a source tells PEOPLE. "It's just too soon for her to get serious."
Best-Friend Betrayal?
After consoling Denise Richards when her marriage to Charlie Sheen fizzled, Locklear is hurt to find that Richards is now dating Sambora. Richards and Sambora both claim that their relationship was platonic until well after Locklear filed for divorce. "I wish Heather well," Richards tells PEOPLE. "Unfortunately our friendship had to dissolve and I'm sad about that. The last thing I would do is create a media frenzy like this, especially as I'm trying to get through a divorce."

Melrose Romance
Locklear, 45, cuddles with former Melrose Place costar Jack Wagner, 47, at the Celebrity Classic golf tournament in Valencia, Calif. The pair were first spotted getting cozy in March, but friends said at the time that they were not dating. But a Locklear source now tells PEOPLE the actress "a really good place. It's great to see her with someone who appreciates her."

Heather Seeks Treatment
Locklear's publicist confirms to PEOPLE that the actress is seeking treatment for psychological issues at an Arizona facility. "Heather has been dealing with anxiety and depression," her rep tells PEOPLE. It was only in March that a man, who claimed to be a doctor worried that the actress was suicidal, called 911 about an incident at her house.
Locklear Gets Locked Up
Locklear is arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence in Santa Barbara, Calif. The actress, who is found to be "disoriented and impaired," undergoes drug and alcohol testing. "Alcohol was ruled out as a factor, but based on the officer's observations, we believe Locklear was under the influence of prescription medication," a California Highway Patrol spokesman tells PEOPLE.
