Days before her 42nd birthday, Lopez announces some sobering news: she's ending her marriage to husband of seven years, singer Marc Anthony. "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters," says the couple, who are parents to 3-year-old twins Max and Emme.
Lopez takes a break from Idol duty to join the all-star cast of What to Expect When You're Expecting, an ensemble comedy based on the popular pregnancy guide of the same name. Despite its literary success, the film fails to win over audiences, only delivering $12 million during its box office debut.
A season after leaving the show, Lopez returns to judge American Idol. "I love this show and I'm glad to be back," she says at a press conference with fellow returning judge Keith Urban and newcomer Harry Connick Jr. "It wasn't the easiest thing to fit in this season of Idol, but I do love it so much ... I did miss it."
After 2½ years together, Lopez and her dancer beau Smart call it quits. Though initial reports speculated the relationship was on the rocks, a source confirms to PEOPLE that "they've definitely broken up. The relationship had just run its course."
