Frosty Divorce
After an intense two years of legal wrangling, Law and Frost finalize their divorce. Until the end, their relationship is wracked with trouble: Frost, who sought medical treatment for postnatal depression following the birth of son Rudy, claims that troubles with Law worsened her depression. Further, rumors swirl that Law and Nicole Kidman had an affair during the filming of Cold Mountain, though Kidman files and wins lawsuits against two British papers that printed the gossip.

Old Role, New Love
Law takes on the role of Alfie, first brought to the screen by Michael Caine. He and his costar Sienna Miller appear cozy during filming but deny a romance. The movie opens to bad reviews and earns only $13.4 million at the box office. The following February, Law and Miller come out as a couple.

Mountaintop
Law turns in a stellar performance alongside Renee Zellweger and Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain. Acclaimed by critics, he will receive an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Inman, an injured Civil War soldier trying to make his way home. (Zellweger will ultimately pick up the Best Actress statuette for her role in the film.)

I Heart Ensemble Casts
Law, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Naomi Watts and Jason Schwartzman star in the existential comedy I Heart Huckabees. The film opens to mixed reviews, with PEOPLE commenting, "most of the time Huckabees is just wacky and original enough that, at least while you're viewing it, you're sucked into its weird orbit."

He's Got it All
PEOPLE names Law the Sexiest Man Alive. Jon Avnet, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow producer, says, "Jude's uniqueness is that he has the talent of a character actor and the looks of a leading man."
On-Screen Infidelity
In Mike Nichol's Closer, Law stars with Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. The dark look at intimacy and betrayal, based on Patrick Marber's play and Mozart's opera Cosi fan tutte, is a critical success but only brings in $34 million domestically.

The Law & Miller Engagement
Law asks Miller to marry him before they head off with his three children for a vacation to the Seychelles. She says yes. "They are spectacularly happy," Law's rep tells PEOPLE. "He proposed to her on Christmas day with a gold band and nine diamonds."
