Just a Whisper
When Bosworth auditions for Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer, the aspiring thespian brings a family Christmas card as her headshot. Her equestrian experience helps get her cast as Judith, whose death haunts her friend played by Scarlett Johansson. In September, Bosworth returns to school and graduates as a National Honor Society member and athlete in lacrosse and soccer.

Tube Time
Bosworth plays the beautiful Bella Banks in the WB's Young Americans. Although the show is cancelled at the end of the summer, she does begin a two-year romance with costar Matt Czuchry. Bosworth also lands a small role in the movie Remember the Titans, and in 2001, defers her acceptance to Princeton to pursue acting in California. "It's interesting to think I could have gone one way or another," she later tells W. "You've got to just live your life and keep doing what you want to do."

Blooming Romance
Bosworth meets Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom at a Gap ad shoot. The two become an instant couple but consistently keep their lips sealed about the relationship to reporters.

Big Crush
Bosworth gets good exposure from her first starring role as a tough surfer girl in Blue Crush. She puts on twenty pounds of muscle and learns to surf for the part. "I grew up in the Northeast so I'd never been on a surfboard," she tells Teen People. "Now I'll do it for the rest of my life."

No Rules
For her next film Rules of Attraction, Bosworth joins an ensemble cast that includes James Van Der Beek, Jessica Biel and Shannyn Sossamon. Based on the 1985 novel of the same title by American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, the movie illustrates the twisted drug use and sex lives of a group of privileged college students.

Outside the Box
Bosworth costars in the crime drama Wonderland, a film about a real-life, multiple homicide in L.A. in which porn star John C. Holmes was a suspect. Opposite Val Kilmer, she plays Holmes' drug-using, teenage girlfriend.

Bad Date
The actress stars with childhood friend Topher Grace in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! as a small–town teenager that learns her Hollywood crush (Josh Duhamel) isn't as charming as he seems in the movies. Critics and audiences do not find the movie charming either. It brings in just over $15 million its first three weeks at the box office.

Beyond Beauty
Bosworth plays the 1950s teenage star Sandra Dee in Beyond the Sea. Costar and director Kevin Spacey raves about her talent in W. "She was completely open, she was trusting, she f---ing delivered. I think she's going to be around for a long time." In January, Superman Returns director Bryan Singer chooses Bosworth (over Claire Danes) for the role of Lois Lane after Spacey, who plays villain Lex Luthor, recommends her.

On then Off...Now On...
After a bumpy few months as a couple, Bosworth visits Bloom, who is filming sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean in the Bahamas. "I do know that I'm happily in a relationship, and there's nobody else I want to be with," she tells W. "We're both equally supportive of one another, which I think in any relationship makes things easier and seem less daunting."

Superman Success?
Her first blockbuster Superman Returns hits theaters. Despite grossing $198.8 million after 10 weeks at the box office, the film is seen as a disappointment due to reports that it took an estimated $200 million to make.
