Following her 30th birthday, Middleton welcomes a new man in her life, a 4-month-old black cocker spaniel named Lupo, reportedly a Christmas gift from husband Prince William. First seen with his parents during a beachside stroll in Anglesey, Wales, the royal pup attends polo matches and a young scout camp outing with the Duchess. "I've got a dog that's keeping me occupied," Kate says of her constant companion. "I'm getting a lot of me time with the dog."
The Diamond Life
From a river ride down the Thames to a star-studded pop concert, the Duchess of Cambridge helps usher in Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, which marks the monarch's 60-year reign, alongside husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry.
Let the London Games Begin!
The Duchess really gets into the Olympic spirit, serving as an ambassador (along with Prince William and Prince Harry) to the British Olympic delegation and the British Paralympics squad for the 2012 London Games. Middleton cheers on her country in events ranging from equestrian (where royal cousin Zara Phillips takes home a silver) and cycling, where she's spotted in a surprising act of PDA with William during the men's team gold medal victory.

During a tour of Southeast Asia with husband William, French magazine Closer publishes topless photos of the Duchess sunbathing while on a private holiday in France. "Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner," a spokesman from St. James Palace says in a statement, adding that the royals will be taking legal action.
Royal Reveal
Over a year and a half into their marriage, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announce they are expecting their first child. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news," reads a statement from the Palace, noting that Catherine has been admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London for acute morning sickness.
A Good Sport
After leaving the hospital, it's back to business for the duchess, who shines in her first official outing since she sought treatment for morning sickness. Donning an Alexander McQueen dress, she shows off a little leg – and perhaps a hint of bump – at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show in London, where she handed out two of the night's top prizes.

The duchess cradles her growing baby belly during her first official outing to visit a residential treatment center following a private babymoon in Mustique with Prince William, during which photos of her frolicking in a bikini were taken and shopped around, drawing the ire of the royal family.
